By Exclaim! StaffIt's been three years since Sarah Slean's last album of original material, but the arty Canuck songstress is finally ready to follow-up 2008's The Baroness. Her new double album Land & Sea will arrive on September 27 via Pheromone Recordings, and she will promote it with a cross-Canada tour this fall.
The new album contains two nine-song discs. The first, Land, was produced by Joel Plaskett and mixed by Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar along with Vic Florencia (Nelly Furtado, Danko Jones). A press release calls it an "unabashed pop album" anchored by a "traditional four-piece rock band."
The more grandiose second disc, Sea, was made with producer/composer Jonathan Goldsmith (Bruce Cockburn, Jenn Grant), and features "a 21-piece string section." See making-of clips over at Slean's YouTube page.
Slean will promote the album with a national Canadian tour that will last for longer than a month. She will be on the road for all of November and into early December, with 18 confirmed dates that stretch as far west as Vancouver Island and as far east as Montreal. An additional show in Red Deer, AB, will be announced soon.
Check out the schedule below, and scroll down for the Land & Sea tracklist. At the bottom of the page is also the new single "Set Me Free."

Posted by Nameless Poseur On 2011-09-22 14:52:44SOOOOO SICK of every press release/media outlet reporting CROSS CANADA tours that only go as far East as Montreal.
There is a VERY vibrant (though routinely shafted) music scene in the Maritime provinces that would love to see some of these "cross Canada" tours ACTUALLY travel across Canada and make stops in the Maritimes.
Anyway, just a pissy rant from someone who would LOVE to see Sarah come to Halifax (which, last time I checked, is still part of Canada).
Posted by Nameless Poseur On 2011-09-23 10:20:25She has mentioned that there are more dates to come and that she will be playing out East. She also specifically mentioned that she will be playing with an orchestra in Halifax next year as part of a separate tour focussing on "Sea"!
