Royal Canoe Performs Beck's 'Song Reader' and Arcade Fire's Sarah Neufeld Goes Solo for Winnipeg's New Music Festival
The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra's New Music Festival specializes in boundary-pushing performances, and this year's event will include a pop-friendly twist in its program. In addition to appearances from various composers and artists, the bill includes two instalments of an event called Pop Nuit.

The first evening of Pop Nuit will take place on January 30 at Winnipeg's West End Cultural Centre. It will feature a solo performance from Arcade Fire violinist Sarah Neufeld, with Jesse Krause set to open.
A couple of days later, on February 2, eclectic local pop act Royal Canoe will perform in the Pantages Playhouse Lobby. They will perform Beck's new Song Reader project in full; as you may be aware, Song Reader was released on sheet music last month (December 11) without any recorded versions from Beck himself. Toronto DJ/cinephile Tasman Richardson will open and perform Temple.
Beyond that, the New Music Festival program highlights composers Steve Reich, Christos Hatzis and Gareth Farr, plus percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie, dancers from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Elmer Iseler Singers, and bass clarinetist Jeff Reilly.
