Record Store Day 2014: The Massive List of Exclusives
By Brock Thiessen & Alex HudsonRecord Store Day seems to be picking up steam by the year, and 2014 looks to be no exception. As usual, the international bonanza will bring a heap of exclusive records to independent music stores around the globe. The big day occurs on April 19, and there have already been a heap of announcements.

As we count down the days, we've compiled a big list of many of the exclusives that will be coming our way. After all, how else will you know how much room to clear on your record shelf? Many of these were tracked down by the folks at Wax Poetic; some have been officially announced and have full details, while others are a little more mysterious.

New albums are being added all the time, so it's impossible to make an absolutely definite list. That being said, we will continue to update this list to make sure that it's as up to date as possible.

UPDATE (February 24): We've now done a massive update, listing a big pile of newly revealed exclusives. Now added to the list are releases from LCD Soundsystem, Oneohtrix Point Never, R.E.M., Spacemen 3, David Bowie, Public Image Ltd., Xiu Xiu, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kinds, Jon Brion, Neil Young, Mastodon, Opeth, Notorious B.I.G., Green Day, Death Cab for Cutie, Nirvana, Sex Pistols, the Doors and tons more.

UPDATE (February 26): We've done yet another update, this time adding releasing from Sub Pop, including exclusives from Mudhoney, Chad VanGaalen, Pissed Jeans and the Notwist. Also, we've include Victory Records releases from Between the Buried and Me, Earth Crisis, Strife and more. Last but not least, the Flaming Lips are releasing an exclusive as well.

UPDATE (February 27): Today's updates include releases from Spoon, the Darcys, Gojira, Cave In, and Kode9 and the Spaceape.

UPDATE (March 3): Our latest update includes releases from Sunny Day Real Estate, the Flaming Lips, Foals and Hamilton Leithauser.

UPDATE (March 4): A big update today, including new exclusives from Blue Rodeo, Johnny Cash, Crosses, Of Montreal, Xiu Xiu, Deer Tick, Chuck Inglish, OFF!, Velvet Underground and more.

UPDATE (March 5): Another big update today, including releases from Outkast, MGMT, Captured Tracks, Broken Bells, Neko Case and Heatmiser, among many others.

UPDATE (March 6): Today's update includes releases from Songs: Ohia, David Lynch, Jimi Hendrix, Del Barber, Doug Paisley, Phosphorescent and more.

UPDATE (March 10): Today's update includes a pile of new adds, including releases from Tame Impala, Mazzy Star, Disclosure, Nick Cave, Little Dragon, Banks, Zombies and a lot more.

UPDATE (March 20): Today Record Store Day unveiled its official list of titles. You see entire official list of U.S. titles here (or grab it in pdf form here), while the UK list can be found here. As RSD points out, "we don't control what gets released in which countries," though in years past the list of exclusives available in Canada has closely resembled that of those in the U.S.

These all suck.
Start Conversation
This is a joke...right?
Start Conversation
Not even worth getting out of bed for at this point...who the hell are most of these artists?
Start Conversation
This Neil Young guy, I've never heard of him! This list is bullshit! And Bob Dylan? This is a list of nobodies!

Maybe 1 thing thus far I am remotely interested in.

Record Store Day.....every year the lists get LONGER... quality of releases shorter. Note: If yer into most of that shit...wait until the weekend AFTER RSD for the best pickings ( that's when most of the shops get the balance of their orders anyways). On that note: R.O.W ( Sudbury) in peace.
Start Conversation
Yah, no way this is the final list of releases. Lacklustre thus far I agree, some good ones have to be on the way.
Start Conversation
A few things on this list will be out on RSD but a lot of it won't.

I think music fans will be pretty happy once we make our announcement on March 20th.

I know, because I am the guy who is putting it together! - Michael Kurtz (Record Store Day)

I bought Indigo Meadow on record store day last year.. Indigo Rainbow is the only one that I'm interested in buying. So poopstain, you are in fact wrong.
Start Conversation
Hmph. I am disappoint.

All you hipsters and heshers will buy "cows and beer" then DIE
Start Conversation
These all suck. There's supposed to be public enemy because of the ambassador.
Start Conversation
A good chunk of this is all UK stuff. Same company that did all the splatter vinyl metal reissues last RSD. Most of the 'real' RSD releases haven't been announced yet. Just someone cashing in.
Start Conversation
Michael: Tell the major labels to fuck off and maybe we'll have something worth getting excited over.
Start Conversation
RSD is now about lining the pockets of music industry fat cats on one cash cow of a day. Way more interesting in the beginning of the 'movement' when it truly was about the retailer and promoting record store culture / appreciation.
Start Conversation
What a crappy list....
Start Conversation
I love how worked up people are getting over the above UNOFFICIAL RSD list, and based on (my take on) what Michael Kurtz is saying, very little of this list will in fact be RSD releases.
Start Conversation
What on earth are you looking for if you dismiss this entire list as terrible? There's a lot of meh stuff, a lot of cash-ins, but it's a way cooler list than previous years. Spacemen 3, new (!) Silver Mt Zion, a key Twilight Sad reissue, Gil Scott-Heron, Xiu Xiu, Joy Division, Oneohtrix, Psychic TV, Fucked Up, Half Japanese, Bathory, Danny Brown... I mean, the hip-hop selections are a bit weak, but goddamn, if you're not at least a bit interested in some of those then I'm sorry about your shit taste bruh
Start Conversation
Worst Husker Du album ever. Dinosaur Jr. boxset sounds sweet, though. And I had no idea anyone cared about Die Kreuzen. Chicago! woot.
Start Conversation
If you don't recognize most of these artists then you don't collect vinyl records.
Start Conversation
Some do suck but you're a child so grow a mind of your own for a change. Yours is a worthless and cruel generation. Probably because you're so worthless.
Start Conversation
Looking forward to the LCD sound system and
Mastodon releases. Sorry many of you are so unhappy about this. Sometimes in life you do not get everything you wish for.
Start Conversation
a lot of those are UK Europe only...
Start Conversation
Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, Gojira, works for me
Start Conversation
So, how many are gonna end up on eBay for insane prices then?
Start Conversation
mmmm Porky Tree !!
Start Conversation
How come the metal stuff that is on the list has been put out already.
Why don't they release albums that have not been available before. The likes of BATHORY, EMPEROR, GOJIRA, have already been reissued a few times as it is. I'm sure that something else could have been put in it;s place that you can't get hold of!!!!
What about white- Labeled Test Pressing instead???

Where are the RSD 7" vinyl releases for Blonde Redhead, The Jezabels, Warpaint, Daughter, Haim, Chvrches, Cloud Control, Joy Formidable, Pale Seas, Seasfire, Blackmail, Donots, Subways, Broken Twin, Beach House, Best Coast, Woman's Hour to namejust a few? :-( :-( :-(

Sad not to see Public Enemy considering Chuck D is the ambassador.

How can you have missed Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown? (From Warner Music Canada). You're a Canadian site! Gee.
Start Conversation
It's pretty weak so far... Hey Jack, got anything for us this year? Get Behind Me Satan perhaps?
Start Conversation
WHERE ARE ALL THE RELEASES I EXPECTED? The Fingerbums - Live in Barry 2xLP? SpaSTICK Dribble - My Name Is Michael Kuntz 10" (2000)? Audiospunk - Clean that up! Red 7"? Growlyfart - The Milkman Stole My Eyes LP? Ooooooo! - Easy-E Wants Chuck's D? LP (1000)? Probably Bent - Mining For Turds 7"? The Garlic Beards - Tug On My Rug Quietly Little One 10"?

RSD is becoming a joke! I've seen the "official" list and there is a release from Ron Jeremy...yes that short fat greasy guy from the adult film industry. It is some bs about classical music. Just goes to show an Indie record store has a great idea to support our vinyl addiction and give a day to support independent small business and the corporate scum that run the world get their hands in and all we get is garbage! As a small business owner I only spend my money on vinyl from independent record stores, and that will NEVER change!
Start Conversation
Hey you guys are totally ignoring, Joy Division, PIL, Sex Pistols, Nick Cave, and Ramones. They are some goodies.
Start Conversation
I think he'd startled a goose, hadn't he? In the end he just threw the loaf at them. It was a large crusty cob, which I found a little amusing. The geese just honked at him and did that little stamping thing with their feet.
