Prism Prize Launches to Recognize Canada's Best Music Video
By Alex HudsonCanada has the Polaris Music Prize for albums and the ECHO Songwriting Prize for songs, and now the Prism Prize has been launched to recognize the country's best music videos from the past year.

Any Canadian music video released in 2012 is eligible for the $5,000 cash prize, and the nominees will be announced on Valentine's Day (February 14). The winner will be revealed on March 24, the final day of Canadian Music Week. If you head over to the Prism Prize's website, you can watch a large selection of eligible videos.

The videos are judged according to their originality, creativity, style, innovation and effective execution. The prize's website notes that the nominees and winner will selected by a nation-wide jury of music industry folks including journalists, broadcasters, and TV/radio personalities. (In the interest of full disclosure, this include yours truly.)

Prism Prize founder Louis Calabro said in a statement, "Currently, music videos are better recognized for their popular appeal than their artistry, necessitating a new award. The convergence of creativity between music and film is something that should be celebrated in this country."

Head over to the Prism Prize's website to learn more and watch the aforementioned videos.
