Occupy Wall Street Gets Benefit Album with Devo, Yo La Tengo, Crosby & Nash

By Alex HudsonThe Occupy Movement has received no shortage of support from the musical community, as it has spawned live performances, ill-advised T-shirts and even an advocacy website. It's not too much of a surprise, then, that Occupy Wall Street is now receiving its own star-studded benefit LP called Occupy This Album.

MSNBC reports that the collection includes contributions from an impressive variety of big-name artists like Crosby & Nash, Devo, Lucinda Williams, Yo La Tengo, Warren Haynes, Toots and the Maytals, DJ Logic, Jackson Browne, Third Eye Blind, and the drummers who play in Manhattan's Zuccotti Park (the former site of Occupy Wall Street's camp). The album also features politically minded documentary filmmaker Michael Moore, who apparently sings a song.

The material is reportedly a mix of live tracks and new songs, some of which specifically address the protests. Third Eye Blind recently shared their Occupy-themed song "If There Ever Was a Time," which you can listen to below.

The album was curated by Jason Samel, with all money earned going through the nonprofit Alliance for Global Justice. The money will then be divided between Occupy Wall Street and other Occupy offshoots that apply for a grant.

Occupy This Album will be available digitally sometime this winter. Plans for a physical release are still up in the air.
