Numero Group Reissues Potentially Prince-Assisted Lewis Connection LP
By Gregory AdamsThe Numero Group made its name releasing funk and R&B rarities via its series of Eccentric Soul comps, but the label also occasionally reissues albums in full. The next outfit to get the treatment is the Lewis Connection, a late-'70s outfit from the Twin Cities, whose self-titled LP will be rereleased by Numero February 12. You can peep the unaltered artwork, which includes a typo in the band's name, up above.

A press release states that the six-song set was recorded in just as many recording studios, with brotherly band members Pierre and Andre Lewis paying for the sessions "with insurance money from a recently overturned Buick Century." The songs apparently mix the "astro-sexuality" of Parliament with elements of funk, jazz and pop.

You can sample a confluence of bass-popping, sexed-up vocal harmonies and sizzling horns via a stream of "Higher," which you'll find at the bottom of the page.

The Midwestern funk LP may also be of note as it's said to feature a performance from a young Prince. According to the Princevault fansite, LP track "Got to Be Something Here" features the Purple One on guitar and backing vocals. Songwriter Sonny Thompson, who sang lead vocals and played bass on the cut, would later collaborate with Prince as part of the New Power Generation from 1991 to 1996.

The Lewis Connection is apparently Numero's first entry of a series surveying the Minneapolis music scene.

The Lewis Connection:

1. Get Up
2. Higher
3. Feel Good to Ya
4. Got to Be Something Here
5. Dynamic Duo
6. Mr. G
