By Alex HudsonSince releasing Mines in 2010, Portland experimental pop outfit Menomena lost a member, but that evidently hasn't stopped them from prepping a new album and striking out on tour this year.
The upcoming LP is called Moms and it will be out September 18 through Barsuk Records. A press release notes that paring down to a duo helped Menomena to write and record "with more focus and speed than ever before."
The ten songs include "new instruments, like flute, cello, more of [Danny] Seim's synthesizers and the tap-dancing that actually laces through the teasing-then-charging opus, 'Don't Mess with Latexas.'" Apparently, all these instruments help to make Moms "tragic and intimate, comic and endearing, personal and motivated," as Menomena "cast pop cascades into noise kaleidoscopes."

As for the band's tour plans, they will travel around North America this fall, making Canadian stops in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Scroll past the Moms tracklist to see the schedule.
