Members of Queens of the Stone Age, Slayer and Exodus Get Together for New Supergroup
From Left to Right: Ross Robinson, Gary Holt, Dave Lombardo and Casey Chaos
By Gregory AdamsSlayer drummer Dave Lombardo has been jamming onstage with Exodus guitarist Gary Holt since the six-stringer stepped into the mix while Jeff Hanneman recovers from necrotizing fasciitis (aka flesh-eating disease). The pair are apparently recording together too, but for a different project that might warrant the supergroup tag, as it also includes former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri.

Noisecreep reports that the currently unnamed outfit have been recording with producer Ross Robinson (At the Drive-In, Korn) for a documentary on New Orleans haunted house the House of Shock, which Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo founded in 1992. Robinson had been tapped to provide some music for the Dean Karr-directed flick and wanted to "tap into" the energy he had seen between Holt and Lombardo at a San Bernadino Slayer gig.

"Whenever Dave and I would get on deck for soundcheck, we'd go up there first and jam make up stuff everyday," Holt told Noisecreep. "It just comes easy for us. We're both into being spontaneous and improvising. We probably have an album's worth of material."

Amen singer Casey Chaos and Oliveri were added to the project later, and the group laid down at least three new songs just before Christmas at Robinson's home studio in Venice, CA. The music is apparently pretty punky.

"The one we were working on today, it's like a combination of all of our bands with Discharge and the Exploited and GBH on it," Holt explained. "Really, really punk. Super crunchy and super brutal. It just came together so naturally. There's a beat and a riff and Casey starts spewing some venom on top of it. It's awesome!"

The collaborators hinted at a full-length being a possibility, so long as it fits in their schedules. You can check out a short clip of Lomardo tracking drums in the studio, just wailing away on his kit. We'll let you know as soon as the rest of the song arrives.
