By Gregory AdamsMegadeth frontman Dave Mustaine caused an uproar last month via some pointed political barbs towards U.S. President Barack Obama, claiming the president instigated shootings across America in a bizarre gun-control plot. While some fans may now believe the conservative heavy-metal icon has crazy-ass ideas, sanity has prevailed for the time being with news that his act will reissue their classic 1992 set, Countdown to Extinction.
A press release explains that Mustaine oversaw the 20th anniversary project, which drops as a double-CD set and digitally November 6 via Capitol/EMI. The physical edition arrives packaged in a lift-top box and will contain a remastered version of the early '90s set, as well as a disc compiling an entire live set recorded at San Francisco's Cow Palace in 1992. This will be the first time the concert is presented in full.
Liner notes have also been written by music journalist Kory Grow, and the reissue includes a poster and four postcards featuring head shots of each member from the Countdown lineup.
The politically minded collection touched on topics of war ("Architecture of Aggression"), and poverty and taxation ("Foreclosure of a Dream"), among other subjects. It has sold in excess of two million copies in the U.S., and has been certified triple platinum in Canada. The album yielded the hit "Symphony of Destruction," as well as classic tracks "Sweating Bullets" and "Skin O' My Teeth."
Megadeth have also just detailed an upcoming tour in which they'll play the album front to back, though so far no Canadian dates have been announced. You can check out the U.S. tour schedule down below.
