By Alex HudsonEverything that the Flaming Lips get involved in tends get a little strange, and an upcoming radio play starring frontman Wayne Coyne looks to be no exception. Entitled Wayne Coyne's Human Head-Shaped Tumor, it will air on KCRW 89.9 in Los Angeles (and online) later this month.

As Pitchfork points out, the hour-long radio drama was commissioned by McSweeney's and penned by Richard Parks, and features Coyne and the Flaming Lips. An announcement from McSweeney's describes it as "something from another time — a continuous-play radio drama in the style of Mercury Theatre's War of the Worlds, but mixed with contemporary music."

The play will include original compositions from the Flaming Lips, Okkervil River, Eleanor Friedberger, Bill Callahan, Nico Muhly and Oneida. Grizzly Bear member Edward Droste additionally appears, but it's unclear whether he offers up any music. Other talent includes Paul F. Tompkins, Coyne's wife Michelle Martin-Coyne and Jack Hitt.

As the title incites, the play is about Wayne Coyne getting a tumour in the shape of a human head. It was apparently made "a long time ago" and McSweeny's is now "finally" sharing it.

Wayne Coyne's Human Head-Shaped Tumor will get its on-air premiere on KCRW November 24 and November 25 at 5 p.m. Pacific time, and it will also be streaming online.

You can read a FAQ about the radio play here on the McSweeney's site.
