Over the course of ten years, filmmakers Kerthy Fix and Gail O'Hara followed Merritt around, capturing a number of intimate, funny, inspiring and oftentimes grumpy moments. This is the guy that wrote the sprawling, heartbreaking and hilarious sad-pop masterpiece 69 Love Songs, after all. You can watch the trailer, which reveals Merritt to be a bit of a sourpuss, below.
A DVD of the film will be issued May 23 through the film's official website. Bonus features include commentary from Merritt and his longtime manager, friend and Magnetic Field cohort Claudia Gonson, as well as two Magnetic Fields videos -- "Strange Powers" and "Born on a Train" -- directed by Gonson. Five deleted scenes are tacked on as well, including "a lighthearted moment with Stephin in front of a Texas BBQ joint." Sound fun.
