By Alex HudsonBefore she was known to every blogger on earth as Lana Del Rey, songwriter Lizzy Grant recorded far less buzz-worthy material under her given name. Soon, audiences may have another chance to sample this early work, since she is looking to re-release her "lost album," Lizzy Grant aka Lana Del Ray (note the different spelling).
The album originally came out in 2010 via 5 Points Records, but was only available for a few weeks before being pulled from the web while Lizzy rebranded herself. Now, she has bought back the rights to the record, which was produced by David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor).
"I'm re-releasing it, maybe in late summer," the singer told the BBC.
Although the album hasn't been officially available for some time, Lana isn't ashamed of it.
"People act like it's so shrouded in mystery, the 'forgotten terrible album,'" she noted. "But if you look on YouTube, all 13 tracks are available with millions of views, so it's not like no one's heard them. We were all proud of it. It's pretty good."
Lana's manager, Ben Mawson, similarly told Billboard that the songwriter hopes to release the prior album as a collection of B-sides.
Of course, you don't have to wait until then to hear what Lana Del Rey sounded like when she was still Lizzy Grant. Check out the song "Smarty" below, and be sure to hunt around YouTube to uncover more lost material.

Posted by hannah On 2012-04-17 12:08:19The above track isn't half-bad... it's a bit of harmless fun, really. Something upbeat to put on in the background of a party. Not intellectually stimulating, but then not everything out there has to be.
