James Franco Announces EP with His Band Daddy, Shares New Video
By Alex HudsonHollywood star James Franco's musical muse has previously led him to start the experimental group Kalup & Franco with cross-dressing performance artist Kalup Linzy. Now, he's started a new band called Daddy with collaborator Tim O'Keefe, and they will release their EP MotorCity on September 25.

As the title indicates, the idea for the EP was conceived while Franco was in Detroit filming the upcoming movie Oz: The Great and Powerful. The music was apparently inspired by a steady diet of Motown, while the lyrics can be traced back to Franco's poetry degree. The track "Crime" also features a vocal cameo from soul legend Smokey Robinson.

Get a taste of the album by checking out the Franco-directed video for "Love in the Old Days" below courtesy of Rolling Stone. The summery track blends Franco's spoken word verses with tuneful pop choruses and summery, soul-tinged backing.

According to a press release, "The motivation behind Daddy is to push beyond the sonic space of music into the surrounding ecology. Daddy investigates the territories of film/video, installation, and performance while simultaneously exploring the connections that form between them."

The EP cover is above. The girls in the image are actresses Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. Just in case you had forgotten that Daddy features a famous Hollywood celebrity, that image should serve to remind you.
