James Blake Writing "More Aggressive" Tunes, Hoping to Reteam with Bon Iver
By Gregory AdamsPost-dubstep poster boy James Blakeádominated 2011 with his self-titled debut and his Enough Thunder and Love What Happened Here EPs. But while those efforts honed in on the English electronic artist's velvety smooth style, he's hinted his next material might be of a more aggressive nature.

Speaking with Spinner, Blake admitted that he's been composing some vocal music inspired by time off spent going to the clubs. The party environment, it seems, has energized the golden-throated soul singer.

"I think it's going to be a bit more aggressive, to be honest. It seems that way," he said. "I don't feel more aggressive, it's just been ... it's just how I feel. In terms of writing more club tracks, writing more electronically influenced -- I feel like it was all electronically influenced, but now that influence has come to me in a different way."

While plans have yet to be set in stone, Blake is also hoping he can reteam with Bon Iver main man Justin Vernon on some new material. The pair had previously got together for the track "Fall Creek Boys Choir."

"I will be making sure that I visit him as much as possible when I'm in the U.S., and I know that he'll be in London at some point, as well," Blake explained of their artistic relationship. "We really do want to work on some more stuff together. We get on as people. He's a great guy, and the collaborations that I normally form are based on friendships, not on A&R moves, so that's the way it'll happen."

Also in the cards is a possible collab with Kai Campos from Mount Kimbie, and Blake also hinted that he's also got some instrumental music on the way.

"I've had songs reverberating around my head for a while, so now really is the time to get those things down, get them out."
