By Josiah HughesSince releasing their album It Was Warm and Sunny When We First Set Out, Vancouver indie rock juggernauts In Medias Res have been hitting the pavement hard on a series of tour dates. Now, however, a batch of December dates has been cancelled due to a tragic family emergency.
According to a statement from the band, the remainder of their tour, including a Vancouver stop on December 16 at the Rickshaw, has been cancelled as frontman Andrew Lee's father has been diagnosed with a terminal type of thyroid cancer. His father was given a maximum of a few months to live, so Lee cancelled the tour and immediately drove to the Regina hospital to be with his father.
According to a press release, "Andrew's father is reportedly in good spirits... and at the moment, that is very important." Read the full statement here.
On the morning of December 2, Andrew Lee recorded an acoustic version of the In Medias Res track "Come Back Down" in the hospital parking lot. The song can be streamed below or purchased here. All proceeds will go to Lee's family in this trying time.
