By Gregory AdamsFans of Friendly Fires rejoiced when their long-awaited sophomore set Pala dropped last week. Canadian groupies were no doubt stoked to learn that the band had also announced some gigs, including stops in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. It must have been one hell of a show at Montreal's Corona Theatre on Saturday (May 28), though, as the group have been forced to cancel tonight's (May 30) performance at Toronto's Phoenix Theatre due to exhaustion.
A press release for the troupe apologizes for the last-minute bailing, but explains that they have a good reason not to play. "The band's drummer Jack Savidge has been hospitalized due to exhaustion," the statement reads.
The band also posted on their site that they will be skipping their show at Minneapolis's Varsity Theatre on Wednesday (June 1) as well. "Huge apologies to all who have bought tickets but we'll try to find a way back to see you soon," they wrote.
This is purely speculation, but it looks as if the percussionist could rebound quickly from his ailment as no other gigs have been postponed yet. Here's hoping the energetic combo are fully rested up and hydrated for their scheduled Vancouver stop at Venue this Saturday (June 4).
You can check out the rest of the group's dates here.
UPDATE: Friendly Fires have now scheduled a DJ set at Toronto's Wrongbar for tonight (May 30) and a make-up show on October 23. The band have also provided this update on their website: "Hello Toronto, it is with immense regret that we have to cancel our show tonight, we love playing here but unfortunately due to illness we are not able to perform. Please get in touch with the venue about ticket refunds/re-scheduled date: http://tinyurl.com/4xl7dr6"
