The Flaming Lips Release Pink Floyd Companion Album
By Josiah HughesWay back in 2009, experimental alt-pop act the Flaming Lips released a full album cover version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Ahead of their planned Beatles cover album, the group will apparently return to Pink Floyd's most popular work with a companion piece.

Called Flaming Side of the Moon, the group have prepared an album that's intended to be enjoyed simultaneously with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

As a press release explains, the album is meant to be enjoyed alongside Pink Floyd's version of the album. "For ideal listening conditions, fans are encouraged to seek out the original Alan Parsons' engineered quadraphonic LP mix of Dark Side, but it will work with the album on any format."

Further, in keeping with stoner mythology, Flaming Side of the Moon will also sync up with The Wizard of Oz.

Some are skeptical about the release's validity, particularly since the press release doesn't contain any quotes from the band members themselves. Further, the album is set to hit digital outlets on March 31, which is treacherously close to April Fool's Day. The band are reportedly only pressing 100 vinyl copies of the album for friends and family.

With anyone else, we'd agree that the details sound a little fishy. However, since it's the Flaming Lips we're dealing with, the entire project sounds entirely plausible.

Some cover art for the release is available above via Pitchfork.

UPDATE: You can now stream the album in full below.
