By Alex HudsonCan you believe it's been two decades since Exclaim! first hit the streets way back in 1992? Well, it has, and our 20th anniversary celebrations will begin when we produce a star-studded collaborative show on February 4 at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern, in conjunction with the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, as part of the JUNO Concert Series.
For this first taste of Exclaim!'s 20th anniversary bash on February 4, we've recruited some big-name Canadian stars from across a range of genres for three unique sets. The night will kick off with a performance from up-and-coming indie popsters the Elwins, who will be joined by members of Broken Social Scene, Sloan, Tokyo Police Club, Ohbijou, the Rural Alberta Advantage and others.
Next up is a set of first-wave punk from the Sadies, who will be accompanied by members of Fucked Up, Burning Love, the Curse and Career Suicide. What's more, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet veteran Don Pyle will be showing slides from his photo memoir Trouble in the Camera Club.
Finally, the night will end in style with the Hip-Hop Karaoke crew, including Numeric, Dalia, and More or Les, joined by D-Sisive, Choclair, Michee Mee and more.
The JUNO Concert Series will also include a subsequent show produced by NXNE on March 3 at the Horseshoe. This night will feature Arkells, the Beauties, the Order of Good Cheer, and more acts to be announced.
Tickets for both shows are available now. You can buy yours online from Ticketmater or MapleMusic, on the phone at 416-870-8000, or in person at Soundscapes, Rotate This or the Horseshoe Tavern. All proceeds will go towards the music education charity MusiCounts.
