Dave Grohl Opens Up About Sound City Studios Documentary
By Alex HudsonIn 2011, while the music world celebrated the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind with a reissue, guitar and 144 consecutive covers, one piece of the album's legacy died when Sound City Studios in Los Angeles closed its doors for good. Now, Foo Fighters main man Dave Grohl has confirmed plans to make a documentary about the studio where Nevermind was recorded.

"When Sound City closed last year, it was a very sad day. That place was like a church. The list of people that recorded there reads like a virtual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," he told Rolling Stone [via Contactmusic]. Other artists who recorded there include Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, and Metallica.

Grohl continued, "That funky old place had the best drum room in world. The drum sound at the beginning of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' -- that's Sound City. I decided to make a film about that feeling you get when you put five guys in a room, hit 'record' and the hair on the back of your neck stands up."

This confirms rumours that began swirling last year that Grohl would be making a documentary about the studio.

So what exactly can we look forward to from the multi-instrumentalist's venture into filmmaking? "Expect some epic jam sessions," he said.

Unfortunately, there is no word yet on when Grohl is planning to roll out this cinematic venture, which has yet to receive a title.
