Chief Keef Taken into Custody for Violating Parole with 'Pitchfork' Video
By Alex HudsonWe ranked Chief Keef as one of the top newsmakers of 2012, and 2013 is looking to be another headline-grabbing year for the young rapper also known as Keith Cozart. Today (January 15), he was jailed in his hometown of Chicago for violating the terms of his probation.

As the Chicago Sun-Times [via Complex] reports, the 17-year-old appeared in Cook County juvenile court. He was accused of visiting a gun range in New York this past June in a video for Pitchfork, despite being forbidden from having any contact with firearms.

The rapper's lawyer, Dennis Berkson, said that Cozart fired a rifle as part of a promotional video for the website. This apparently didn't sway Judge Carl Anthony Walker, who found that Keef exhibited a "willful disregard" of the court. Cozart will be held until his sentencing hearing on Thursday (January 17).

The 17-year-old was placed on probation after a 2011 incident in which he pointed a gun at police officers. In 2012, he was investigated by Chicago police for a possible role in the drive-by shooting of a rival rapper Joseph "JoJo" Coleman.

Chief Keef's debut album, Finally Rich, came out back in December.
