Beirut Announces Canadian Summer Dates
By Gregory AdamsLast summer saw the release of Beirut's latest LP The Rip Tide. It also found bandleader Zach Condon and co. hitting the concert circuit. If you have fond memories of the project's melancholy yet uplifting, brass-laden compositions scoring your last sunny season, you'll be glad to know Beirut will be back in Canada next July on another tour.

Dates are slowly unfurling for the trip, but a press release confirms that the act will be making at least five stops between Quebec and BC. As you'll see in the dates below, everything kicks off July 17 at Montreal's Metropolis Theatre, but shortly thereafter they'll make their way to Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Vancouver. More dates are expected to arrive in the near future.

Tour dates:

7/17 Montreal, QC - Metropolis Theatre
7/19 Toronto, ON - Sound Academy
7/23 Winnipeg, MB - The Burton Cummings Theatre
7/25 Edmonton, AB - Starlite Room
7/28 Vancouver, BC - Orpheum Theatre

The Sound Academy is the SHITTIEST venue in Toronto.
Any band that cares about audience satisfaction and audio satisfaction would make sure they never play there.
EDMONTON! No freaking way. This makes me so very happy. Never thought I'd see the day. And the Starlite Room too! Such a tiny venue. Nice and intimate!
Sound Academy is totally *fine* and really, what is the alternative?
Kool Haus has the same capacity as Sound Academy, sounds better, has better sightlines and is more accessible. Or what bout one of our fine theatres like Massey Hall or Sony Centre? Someone is going for the $$$!
Some bands don't like theaters or seats. and a lot of fans like to 'rock out'. I agree Massey Hall is awesome but it's not for everyone.
Also, if you asked 100 people in Toronto about the Koolhaus vs. Sound Academy, you'll get a 50/50 split I guarantee it.
I disagree. Anyone I know who has been to both would choose Kool Haus. Sound is better and sightlines are undisputedly better for concerts of this size. Besides, Sound Academy is in the middle of nowhere. This is the summer, I would even prefer to see it at the Molson Amp if the turnout was great enough. Beirut is a great live band and I had the luxury of seeing a magical set at last summer's Osheaga. I will not be attending at Sound Academy, my past concert experiences there have been far too negative.
First of all, the capacity at the Molson Amphitheater is so much bigger than the Sound Academy it can't even be compared.

Secondly, the Kool Haus is probably the worst sounding venue in the city (it's literally a warehouse), while the Sound Academy is arguably the best (at least for a standing room style venue). Other than it being in an inconvenient location, I couldn't be happier this show is happening there. I saw Spoon in that room and it had to be one of the best sounding shows I've ever attended.
I don't know a single person who likes Sound Academy. It is awful by every measure of a concert venue.
Firstly, biking to the sound academy in the summer is actually quite nice.
Secondly, i think everyone can agree there are NO good venues in Toronto at that capacity. to say the koolhaus is much better is insane. The city lacks a big nice room.
Thirdly, Don't go, nobody will care, this will probably sell out quickly and you'll get your wish of Molson next year!
maybe move out of Toronto, problem solved
Sound Academy does not compare to the Kool Haus. The location and inexperienced staff make the expensive cab ride, simply not worth it. The Sound Academy can fit more people that the Kool Haus, but the sound is much, much better at Kool Haus especially since the new sounds system that was installed last year. There are a number of shows that would have been much better if they had been in the Kool Haus.
Sound Academy in the winter is the worst. Kool Haus is better, but really they both suck.
Agreed, Sound Academy is easily the worst venue. The location is horrendous, the service is terrible, and their beer selection is the pits.
