Beady Eye's Debut Is "Right Up There" with Definitely Maybe, Liam Gallagher Says
By Cam LindsayThe debut album by Liam Gallagher's new band, Beady Eye, is just days away from dropping. As reported, Different Gear, Still Speeding is out this Tuesday (March 1) in North America, and as anyone would guess from a band that is Oasis reborn without Noel Gallagher, it sounds, well, almost exactly like an eighth Oasis album.

Even Liam feels it's not a far stretch from his old band. Earlier this week, the (in)famous frontman got on the horn with Exclaim! to discuss his new record, saying there are as many similarities as there are differences.

"It's hard when you've been in the same bands, know what I mean?" Gallagher says. "You're doing the same thing, but obviously Noel's not there. I'm not singing any differently or trying to get a new style. Obviously Andy [Bell]'s playing guitar now, so that's different. I just think the music, it sounds like a debut record. There's a good vibe to it."

Despite releasing seven albums, Oasis were always praised most about their debut, 1994's Definitely Maybe. So when asked about whether Different Gear, Still Speeding holds a candle to his previous band's classic, Liam says he feels it does.

"Me personally, I think it is right up there," he says. "Musically, the songs are just as good. The playing's fookin' better, as far as I'm concerned. The production is better. I'm singing better. Definitely Maybe was the first record I ever made. There's now way I knew what I was doing. I was just getting on with it, know what I mean? Now I know a little bit about what I'm doing.

"However that is better or worse, it's a personal fookin' thing, but to me I think it's better. Whether it means more to the kids today than what Definitely Maybe does, we'll wait and see, but it's out of our fookin' hands."

Check out an exclusive interview with Liam and guitarist Andy Bell next week on Exclaim.ca.

Different Gear, Still Speeding will be released in Canada on MapleMusic Recordings and in the U.S. via Dangerbird Records.

without Noel, this band went from great, to just alright. But at least their making rock'n'roll, i'm tired of this indy shoegaze fad thats happening. THANKS PITCHFORK...
Definitely Maybe is widely regarded as one of, if not the greatest debut albums of all time. Beady Eye would be lucky for their album to be considered the greatest debut album this month. They're not terrible, they're just ordinary, mediocre. Liam used to be a fantastic front man, but he's not a songwriter, never was, never will be, and his voice has definitely lost the punch it used to have.

Bravado worked well for Oasis back in the day because it was true. They were the biggest band in the world for 15 years. Now with Beady Eye, it would probably be in Liam's best interest to just be happy that he's still got some linger fame to barely hold on it.
Definitely Maybe is overrated, this album by Beady Eye is much better
Did he actually say fookin' rather than fucking or are just trying to add some kind of cute accent to the interview. If it is the later, then that's fookin' annoying.
