Basia Bulat to Team Up with Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra at What Next? Fest
By Alex HudsonLondon, ON-based folk singer Basia Bulat is one of a kind, as her warbling vocals and autoharp strums are unmistakable. Next month, she will reinvent her sound by teaming up with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra for a special performance at the What Next? Festival in Hamilton, ON.

The performance will take place on February 3 at the Hamilton Place Studio Theatre. This is the first night of the What Next? Festival, which will run until February 6.

The arrangements were written by Canadian chamber pop master Owen Pallett and composed specifically for this performance. A press release offers this description: "Originally written to be performed by a full orchestra, Owen Pallett reworked the charts to meet the needs of performing with a smaller group of Hamilton Philharmonic musicians in the intimate setting of the Hamilton Place Studio Theatre."

The performance will feature a string quintet, a wind quintet, trumpet, trombone, percussion and harp. Bulat will be performing tracks from her Polaris-nominated 2007 album Oh, My Darling and last year's Heart of My Own.

Tickets for the show cost $23 in advance at $25 at the door. Wristbands for the What Next? Festival cost $39 for under-30s and $49 for everyone else. Get tickets and read up on all of the performers at the festival website.
