Arcade Fire Ripped Off by Microsoft?
By Gregory AdamsAlthough Arcade Fire fans the world over likely have their personal favourites, "Wake Up" very well could be the group's signature tune. The anthem's inspirational "whoas" and pounding drum beats, not to mention its sock-hopping finale, has endeared the tune to many. The song has also been used in movie trailers, as well as Premier League Soccer and the Super Bowl.

Perhaps the truest measure of success is whether your tune receives the rip-off treatment from advertising companies trying to save a buck or two. It happened to Sigur Rós and now, apparently, it's happened to Arcade Fire.

Stereogum points to a new commercial from Microsoft that finds the company's corporate butterfly soaring through a series of news and sports events, promoting the MSN network, to a strangely familiar tune. Passionate group chants commingle with the basic rhythms of the song, but its chord progression is changed just enough, hopefully, for MSN to avoid a lawsuit. Either way, fans of the band know what's cooking.

Check out the rip-off below and compare it to the Arcade Fire original.
