In April, we announced that sludgy groove metal enthusiasts the Sword would be releasing their third album as a science-fiction-based concept album. It seemed far too perfect for a band as epic as the Sword, but we're happy to report that the statement rang true. Called Warp Riders, the Sword's first full-on concept album will be released in the late summer.
According to a press release, the album was recorded with Pearl Jam/Mastodon producer Matt Bayles, who saw the band "expanding its range from pure metal to include bone-crunching hard rock at large. Rather than dampening its sound, the band actually sounds more amplified than ever, spewing out some of its most scalding riffs to date and channelling an unearthly bellow from its low end."
The press release vaguely details the album's "epic science-fiction narrative," saying that "the storyline is a psychedelic space opera that explores temporal themes of death and rebirth." Little else is known about the album, with no complete tracklisting or audio samples to post. We can report, however, that Kemado will drop Warp Riders on August 24.
