Sarah Harmer Returns with Oh Little Fire
By Alex HudsonQuintessentially Canadian songstress Sarah Harmer hit in big in the first half of last decade, releasing three well-received albums such as 2000's breakthrough smash You Were Here. She's been laying low as of late, however, as her most recent LP, I'm a Mountain, came out in 2005. That's all set to change, though, as Harmer will return with the new album, Oh Little Fire, this summer.

Due out on June 22, the album was recorded with producer Gavin Brown (who also worked on I'm a Mountain and 2004's All of Our Names), and in a video trailer (see below), Harmer explains, "With this record I really wanted to appeal to my love of rock'n'roll and repetition and immediacy of pop production."

Along with several sessions in a Toronto warehouse, part of the album was recorded in a house on Lake Ontario's Wolfe Island, which Harmer says gave some of a songs "a different, kind of country feel." The songwriter handled much of the album's instrumentation herself, including many of the drums.

The tracklist is still unknown, but it will feature a cover Music Maul's "Silverado." Also on the album is the folk-rocking new single "Captive," which you can hear over at Harmer's website.

You can also check Harmer out in person this summer, as she will be hitting the road for a tour that includes plenty of Canadian dates.
