Lilith Fair Dates Cancelled Due to Poor Ticket Sales
By Alex HudsonSo much for Lilith Fair's glorious return. The all-female revue, which had been on a decade-long break, was meant to be one of the big-draw tours of the summer, with big names like Sheryl Crow, Tegan and Sara, Metric and Cat Power signed on to join founder Sarah McLachlan on a lengthy North American tour. But earlier this month, poor ticket sales forced organizers to relocate the Vancouver instalment of the festival to a smaller venue. It turns out that this was only the beginning of the problems for the festival, as low sales have now resulted in organizers cancelling dates on the tour.

So far, two dates on the original 35-stop tour have been officially called off: July 8 in Phoenix, AZ and August 7 in Nashville, TN. The Globe and Mail now reports that at least five more cancellations may be on the way. The news comes from Norah Jones's manager Sam Feldman, who says that the jazz pop chanteuse's Lilith performances in West Palm Beach, FL; Tampa, FL; Birmingham, AL; Houston, TX; and Dallas, TX have all been axed.

Also likely to be cancelled is the August 14 date in Austin, TX, which doesn't yet have a confirmed venue.

What's more, large outdoor shows in Edmonton and Montreal have followed Vancouver in being relocated to smaller venues. Edmonton's show will now take place at Rexall Place (capacity 12,500) and Montreal's show at the Bell Centre (capacity 15,000).

As of Thursday (June 24), McLachlan's label boss/manager Terry McBride said in an email to the Globe and Mail, "We have cancelled nothing at this time. We review our sales on a weekly basis. If we cancel any more, we will announce accordingly." All of the reportedly cancelled dates with Norah Jones are currently still listed on the Lilith Fair website.

As for whether more shows would be cancelled, McBride told the Canadian Press, "We look at this weekly. I'm not going to say yes, I'm not going to say no."
