By Jessica LewisThe Rural Alberta Advantage, Joel Plaskett, Metric, Great Lake Swimmers, Arkells and the Constantines (pictured) are just some of the musicians who were awarded with 2010 Indie Awards this past Saturday (March 13). The Indie Awards is now in its tenth year as the closing celebration of Canadian Music Week, an annual five-day festival in Toronto.
Taking residence at Toronto's Fairmont Royal York hotel, the awards ceremony also saw Canadian artists such as Fucked Up, Peaches and D-Sisive scooping up awards, as well as international winners like the XX, Phoenix, Neko Case and Silversun Pickups.
The Indies winners (besides the Industry Builder and Hall of Fame awards) are selected after fans voted online off a list of nominations whittled down by industry professionals from September 2008 to December 2009. The musicians nominated had to be active during the voting period.
There were performances during the ceremony by Burnz N Hell, Desperate Union, Plants and Animals, the Rural Alberta Advantage, Great Lake Swimmers and the Constantines.
