Toro y Moi

"Still Sound"

By Alex HudsonColumbia, SC-based chillwaver Toro y Moi (aka Chazwick Bundick) recently unveiled his sophomore album, Underneath the Pine, promising that it would be "more linear, as opposed to having the ability to move samples and parts around." Now, we can hear what this sounds like via a free MP3 of the track "Still Sound."

The song is a departure from the hazy glo-fi of this year's Causers of This, stripping back the reverb in favour of punchy, danceable sound. Alongside the usual washes of synths, Bundick lays down a funky groundwork of bass and electric piano. It's still dreamy and mellow, but the catchy falsetto vocals sound more grounded in '70s R&B than the usual bedroom pop.
