Slates Sign with New Damage Records for the Steve Albini-Recorded 'Taiga,' Share New Song
By Alex HudsonEdmonton punks Slates have been on the scene for a few years now, and their hard work has paid off in the form of a deal with New Damage Records. The band will release their latest LP, Taiga, on February 25 via their new label home.

This is the group's third album. It was recorded on analog tape with iconic studio genius Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies) at Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, with the results apparently capturing Slates' raw sound and reflecting the one-of-a-kind acoustic environment of the famed studio.

According to a press release, the lyrics "[explore] the concepts of nature vs. man, the refusal to exist within expectations, heroes and being on the road."

For a taste of what the record sounds like, we've got the premiere of the album cut "Molina Blues" below. In classic Albini style, it's punchy and uncompromising in its full-bodied loudness, but this doesn't detract from the melodic appeal and bittersweet mood.

That's awesome. I found a hilarious and awkward interview of Steve Albini. Check it out: www.youtube.com
