'Manhattan' (album stream)
Earlier this year, New York rock combo Skaters previewed their debut LP Manhattan with the distorto-pop pleaser "Miss Teen Massachusetts," but now the outfit are teaming up with Exclaim! to stream the album in full ahead of its February 25 street date through Warner Bros. Records.
As previously reported, the LP was tracked at New York's Electric Lady Studios with producer John Hill (Santigold, Wavves). Like the previously teased single, the Skaters' new LP often has singer Michael Ian Cummings adopting an emotive croon, and the band exploring some post-Strokes territory.
Highlights include the overdriven opener "One of Us," the jangling melodies behind youth anthem "To Be Young," and the angular bass bounce and foot-shuffling rhythms of "I Wanna Dance (But I Don't Know How)." The band spice things up throughout the record as well, exploring high-speed polka beats and punchy power chords on the haberdashery-highlighting hardcore hit "Nice Hat."
You can sample all of the songs down below and pre-order the album here.
Skaters will play Canadian shows at Montreal's Divan Orange on April 7 and Toronto's Drake on April 9. They also have a series of U.S. and UK dates lined up, and you can see all those here.
