The Salads

'Christmas with the Salads & Friends' (album stream)

By Sarah MurphyHigh-energy ska-influenced Toronto punks the Salads are gearing up for the release of a Christmas album featuring some of their musical friends, aptly going by the name of Christmas with the Salads & Friends. The record offers 15 holiday-themed tracks from an all-Canadian lineup that includes -- in addition to the Salads -- IllScarlett, the Johnstones, Staylefish and King Kong Girio, among others. It's not due out until next month, but you can stream the entire yuletide offering now on Exclaim.ca.

Christmas standards like "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" appear here, as well as a handful of new original songs. But Christmas with the Salads & Friends isn't just for your Christmassy listening pleasure; all the proceeds will be going towards the non-profit organization War Child, which raises awareness and support for children suffering or recovering from global conflicts.

The Salads are currently finishing up work on the follow-up to 2006's The Big Picture, slated to be released in spring 2012. For now, though, get in the Christmas spirit by streaming Christmas with the Salads & Friends exclusively at Exclaim.ca. The collection arrives December 6 on Maui Wowie Records.
