Rose Windows - 'The Sun Dogs' (album stream)
By Alex HudsonSeattle psych-folk crew Rose Windows recently became the latest addition to Sub Pop Records' esteemed roster, and their debut album, The Sun Dogs, is scheduled to arrive through the label on June 25. Before then, you can stream the whole thing on Exclaim.ca.

The album was recorded last spring at Seattle's Avast! Studios with producer Randall Dunn (SunnO))), Boris, Earth). Guest musicians contributed instruments like harp, pedal steel, viola and cello. Sonic touchstones include the Band, the Doors and Black Sabbath, along with international influences from Persia, India, and Eastern Europe.

The album begins with the meditative incantations of "The Sun Dogs I: Spirit Modules" before "Native Dreams" injects some heavy, bluesy psych rock into the proceedings — imagine Black Mountain with flutes. Elsewhere, "Waling with a Woman" is a lush, creepy Americana ballad and songs like "Wartime Lovers" and "Indian Summer" channel classic folk rock.

Band founder Chris Cheveyo noted that the lyrics concern "the everyday blues that capitalism and its hit man, religion, bring on all of us." Dive into these heavy themes by streaming the album below.
