Yes We Mystic

'Vestige' (EP stream)

Winnipeg's Yes We Mystic are set to release their latest EP Vestige next week, but Exclaim! is streaming the whole thing right here, right now.

Unconstrained by genre boundaries, the five-piece art-pop ensemble aren't afraid to experiment. "[We try] to fit things into our music that we don't immediately like," explained vocalist Adam Fuhr in a statement. "If I hear a sound in some song somewhere and catch myself thinking, 'That's stupid,' we'll often make an effort to fit it in, to find a way to include it as an honest part of our music."

That fearless creative energy bubbles to the surface on Vestige, which offers up two heaping helps of orchestral pop on "Wood Wheel" and "The Contest of Strength." Further proving their desire to stretch themselves across the sonic spectrum, the band's new EP also features a collection of remixes.

Doug Hoyer and Mark Mills rework "Wood Wheel," while the Wilderness of Manitoba, Andrew Judah and Holy Hum take on "The Contest of Strength." But in spite of the synth-y makeovers and intriguing reinterpretations, the solid songwriting remains at the core of the musical compositions.

The record was produced by Fuhr and John Paul Peters (Tanya Tagaq, Royal Canoe) at Private Ear Studios, and will be available both digitally and on 7-inch vinyl on May 5. The band will also be taking the new tracks on the road for a string of Western Canada tour dates this month, which you can see below.
