William Ryan Fritch has been busy in 2014. So far, he has released a full-length collaboration with Volcano Choir drummer Jon Mueller called Death Blues, while Lost Tribe Sound began to mine his fabled "Leave Me Sessions" for a limited-edition subscription series that is projected to run the course of 10 thoughtfully curated and artistically decorated albums. Now, Fritch is giving fans something even more personal, a series of behind-the-scenes videos.
The first instalment is an open-eyed glimpse into San Francisco Bay Area composer's creative process, ever chasing a dragon he refers to as "kinetic sound." The video shows Fritch in his natural setting, hanging out in the kitchen with his dog, and coaxing broken but beautiful sounds from myriad unconventionally tweaked instruments and noisemakers.
It reveals how some of the layers came together in his music, largely drawn from the series' recently released Heavy EP, as well as some of his personal history and perspective. In the clip, he says, "Complexity comes from just a touch of chaos." And he follows that chaos wherever it leads.
