The White Mandingos

'The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me' (album stream)

It's been a long time coming, but The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me, the debut release form hardcore/hip-hop supergroup the White Mandingos, finally hits stores June 11 through Fat Beats. A week ahead of the official due date, though, the band are streaming their conceptual LP in full.

A stream of the LP has been served up by Hip Hop DX, and you can check it out down below.

As previously reported, the band is made up of rapper Murs, Bad Brains' Darryl Jenifer and writer Sacha Jenkins, and the LP revolves around the ascent of fictional character Tyrone White, a rock singer from Harlem struggling with themes of race and identity. This includes cuts that jump from the dub- and punk-dabbling title cut, the pop rock-meets-groove metal domestic dispute number "Wifey," and more.

"I think a lot of folks will be able to relate to Tyrone and his struggles," Jenkins had previously said in a statement. "He feels misunderstood — by his women, his friends, his people. And that misunderstanding sometimes affects who he is and who he truly wants to be. Should he not be playing this music because he's black? And who the hell is in the position to tell him what to do anyways?"
