Following the soundtrack release to director Wes Anderson's latest movie The Grand Budapest Hotel earlier this week, the filmmaker and music supervisor Randall Poster have revealed that a much larger musical project is underway. Specifically, a box set featuring the soundtracks to the 10 films the pair have worked on together is set to arrive later this year.
Though details are slim, Rolling Stone reports that ABKCO will celebrate the 22-year working relationship of Anderson and Poster in the box set, running from full-length features Bottle Rocket through to The Grand Budapest Hotel. It will also include Brazilian musician Seu Jorge's The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions, which featured a series of Portuguese interpretations of David Bowie songs, as heard in 2005's The Life Aquatic.
Poster also gave Rolling Stone a run-down of some of his favourite pieces of music used in Anderson's films, from Love's "Alone Again Or" in Bottle Rocket, to Bengali musician Satyajit Ray's "Charu's Theme," used in The Darjeeling Limited, to the Bobby Fuller Four's bubblegummy "Let Her Dance," as heard in Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Poster noted that he and Anderson "still have a number of songs in our safe that we're saving for just the right moment," meaning, potentially, a series of sublime music choices for years to come.
Other acts whose music has appeared in Anderson films over the years include Faces, the Rolling Stones, Devo, the Kinks, the Clash and more.
