First up, the mighty Boognish took a devastating blow this week, as Ween announced their breakup after nearly 30 years of brown. The band's Aaron Freeman (aka Gene Ween) broke the bad news, saying it was "time to move on" and was "a good run." However, this was all apparently news to his bandmate Mickey Melchiondo (aka Dean Ween), who later stated the breakup was "news to me, all I can say for now I guess." On the up side, though, it was a good week for album announcements. The XX revealed their sophomore effort, John Frusciante announced a new solo LP, details leaked on Bob Dylan's latest and cult folk hero Bill Fay unveiled his first studio album in over 40 years.
In a similar vein, Metric revealed an online scavenger hunt for an album stream of their upcoming Synthetica (which will be streaming in full on Exclaim! on Tuesday), while Red Hot Chili Peppers stayed in the news by unveiling a new singles series.
Finally, in news that refuses to stay out of the headlines, Axl Rose was once again accused of banning Slash T-shirts at Guns N' Roses shows, while finally we know for sure that Andre 3000 will play Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming biopic. After all, now there's some solid photo evidence.
