Though many flocked to the tented WayBold stage to avoid the broiling sun, there seemed to be no escape — Weaves brought the heat anyway with scorching, distortion-slathered riffs. The quartet, led by magnetic lead singer Jasmyn Burke, doled out a slew of ebullient, off-kilter rock tracks with hooks buried under piles of fuzz and screeches. During the songs, Burke would wander around the stage in a daze while dancing mechanically and occasionally making faces, personifying Weaves' disorienting but fun vibe.
Closing with "Motorcycle," the stage's sound didn't deliver the angular precision of the studio version, but brought a welcome blistering furiousness instead, which kept the crowd dancing despite the exhaustion brought on by the heat and the 48 hours of music, camping and partying that many had been indulging in. Weaves brought enough party to energize the catatonic, even as the festival moved toward its close.
