Watch Tegan and Sara, the Lonely Island, Common and John Legend Perform on the Oscars

Last night (February 22), CBS aired the 87th Academy Awards. There were plenty of pop cultural moments, from Neil Patrick Harris's groan-worthy jokes to plenty of long and occasionally strange acceptance speeches. There were also a handful of musical moments.

As previously reported, the Best Original Song category included nominees Tegan and Sara and the Lonely Island for The Lego Movie's "Everything Is Awesome," Glen Campbell's "I'm Not Gonna Miss You" from Glen Campbell... I'll Be Me, Adam Levine for "Lost Stars" from Begin Again, Rita Ora for "Grateful" from Beyond the Lights, and John Legend and Common for their Selma contribution "Glory."

It came as little surprise that Legend and Common took home the award for their emotional, racially charged song. In their acceptance speech, Legend decried the United States' penal system and its ludicrously high number of inmates.

The duo also performed the song, and it was a real tearjerker. All nominees performed, save for Glen Campbell who had Tim McGraw sing his song. Tegan and Sara and the Lonely Island's "Everything Is Awesome" performance was tailor made to go viral thanks to its many celebrity cameos and some awesome Lego Oscar statues.

As for the Best Original Score category, The Grand Budapest Hotel's Alexandre Desplat beat out Hans Zimmer (Interstellar), Gary Yershon (Mr. Turner) and Jóhann Jóhannsson (The Theory of Everything).
