An undercurrent of sun-dappled nostalgia has run through many indie releases in the past few years, and Nightlands' upcoming full-length looks to be no exception. The sophomore disc Oak Island is due out on January 22 via Secretly Canadian.
Nightlands is the solo alias of Dave Hartley, who is the current bassist of the War on Drugs and has also played with Sondre Lerche and Sharon Van Etten.
His latest album is said to evoke the warmth of '70s AM pop with layered vocals, acoustic guitars and trumpets. A press release explains, "In using these pop touchstones, the songs become something close to memories, the faded feelings that tide in and out of you when conjuring the past. To this end, virtually every chord played on Oak Island is a major-7th, the most nostalgic harmonic grouping. Seals & Croft produced by mid-'70s beetle-voiced Brian Eno. Crosby, HAL and Nash."
