Vows

'Soon Enough Love' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 25, 2015

Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream: here's the new album from U.S. psych-pop duo Vows. Soon Enough Love is out on June 2 through Section Sign Records, and Exclaim! has got the full stream ahead of time.

The band specialize in bright, melodic pop songs that are doused in trippy effects. Jeff Pupa and James Hencken arrived at this textured sound by recording at home in a Vermont living room and a New Jersey basement and sending files between them, with collaborator Sabeel Azam adding guitar.

The results brim with peppy hooks and watery vocal filters, with "Candy" boasting swaggering rock riffs, "The Snake" employing jazzy rhythms to anchor its spaced-out synth voyage, and "Letters from the Sun" sports a warm, hazy wash of pop textures.

"We usually record in the winter," Hencken said in a statement. "This is actually the first record we've worked on during a summer in years, and I think the result reflects that. It's a total fuzzy summer jam."
