U2

"The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" (video)

U2's hilariously skeezy release plan for their dubious Songs of Innocence LP has commandeered most conversations away from the actual music. To rectify that, frontman Bono apologized in the most humblebraggy of ways before sharing a new video.

During a Q&A on Facebook, a user asked the constantly sunglassed frontman to please never force music onto someone's mobile device ever again. Bono replied with the following statement:

Oops. I'm sorry about that. I had this beautiful idea and we got carried away with ourselves. Artists are prone to that kind of thing. Drop of megalomania, touch of generosity, dash of self-promotion, and deep fear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years mightn't be heard. There's a lot of noise out there. I guess we got a little noisy ourselves to get through it.

Now that that's all settled, we can focus on the band's new video for the punk-legend-appropriating single "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)." If the video looks familiar, that's because it's not that different from the iPhone commercial that's been regularly broadcast all over the place.

As if it was directed by a more basic Tim & Eric, the new clip sees the band perform for some colourful, glitched-out cameras. Though he's no longer alive to give his consent, Joey Ramone also appears in the video via some archival footage. There are also some garish "punk" plaids and, for a few brief moments, the Ramones logo, which the band tramples as they perform.

If it hasn't already started playing automatically on all the devices in your home, you can watch the video for "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" below.
