Trent Reznor Composes Song for 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 2'

After composing music for The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Nine Inch Nails guru Trent Reznor has switched gears into mainstream videogame mode, composing a new song for the upcoming game Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

In an interview with USA Today [via Consequence of Sound], Reznor explained that the music is an "aggressively sounding" rock song built on guitar, bass and drums.

"There is a lot of reservation and angst and sense of loss and regret and anger bubbling under the surface," he said of the game's storyline. "So it didn't make sense to have a gung ho patriotic feeling kind of theme song. It has to feel weighty."

In addition to soundtracking your late night Team Deathmatch sessions, Reznor also hinted that the debut LP from How to Destroy Angels is still forthcoming. "We have a finished album," he explained. "It's been finished for a little while. We're doing a little bit of tweaks on it. The record will be out soon. We are doing a different type of distribution this time so it's taking a little bit longer to coordinate stuff. There's a lot of music about to be unleashed, videos, etc."

He also dropped a small hint about the new Nine Inch Nails album, saying, "Right now, it's in its gestation period."

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be available on November 13, so it won't be long before you're trash-talking your friends atop Reznor's score.

UPDATE: According to a new trailer, for Black Ops 2 Reznor is doing much more than simply writing the theme song, and is in fact scoring the game.
