Touché Amoré's afternoon set at the #1 Legion on the last day of Sled Island was the stuff of legend. But don't take my word for it; ask any of the several hundred kids, adults and even some diehard hardcore fans that have been waiting for a new incarnation of Minor Threat and Bad Brains for decades now. Their first show in Calgary in several years, the band flew in for the solo date just for Sled in the midst of prepping for a North American tour with Tigers Jaw. Hitting songs from all three of their albums, by the end of their hour-plus show the Legion had turned into a throng of diving bodies, microphone call and responses from screamer Jeremy Bolm and some quieter pauses for reflection.
Sweating profusely and putting every ounce of his focus and energy into connecting with everyone in the room, Bolm delivered a performance that would make the bands he grew up on proud. Luckily for him, the rest of his band are some of the best players in hardcore (drummer Elliot Babin was particularly face-shredding). Even the more melodic and intricate guitar work seen on the band's most recent album, 2013's Is Survived By, translated perfectly into their live show.
