Luke Doucet is well-documented guitar aficionado. Not only has he been hired as sessional musician by big names like Sarah McLachlan and Chantal Kreviazuk, but he named his backing band the White Falcon after his six-stringed instrument. It's only fitting, then, that the former Veal frontman is curating the Sleepwalk Guitar Festival, which runs from November 4 to 6 at the Great Hall in Toronto.
Presented by Six Shooter Records, a press release calls the event "an education and celebration of all things guitar" that "brings together trailblazers and standard-bearers of excellence from across genres and across North America."
Among the many performers who will appear at the festival are J Mascis, the Sadies, Melissa McClelland (a Luke Doucet collaborator), Colin James, Danny Michel and, of course, Luke Doucet and the White Falcon. Check out the full list of performers here.
In addition to showcasing established axe-slingers, the festival "will present an Emerging Guitarist Award to a young musician who demonstrates innovation, artistry and technique." The prize is $1,000, and is available to anyone under 19 who uploads a performance video to YouTube and posts in on Sleepwalk's Facebook page.
Early-bird tickets go on sale today (September 19) and cost $75 for a weekend wristband. Cheaper single tickets will also be available. For ticket information and other details, go to the festival website here.
