Steph Copeland has spent the past few years working as a film composer, but now the Toronto musician is making the leap to electro-pop with her debut album. The record is called Public Panic, and it will be out on July 1.
The album was mixed and engineered along with Matthew Rideout (of Yellow Wood). According to a press release, it is "as emotional as it is uplifting." In other words, this sounds like a bit of a shift from her soundtrack output; her filmography shows that most of her work is in horror.
For a taste of Public Panic, the aching electro ballad "Nadia" is streaming at the bottom of this page. A live rendition of the dreamier "Highways" is also below.
Meanwhile, Copeland is currently in the midst of a month-long residency at Toronto venue Voodoo Child. She's performing there every Tuesday in June.
