Over the past few months, Toro y Moi has been rolling out a series of hip-hop tracks online, and while there was no indication as to whether this was part of a larger project, all of them tellingly featured the same cover artwork. Sure enough, they've now been packaged together (along with a pile of new tracks) as a free release called Samantha.
The 20-track collection features appearances from Kool A.D., Washed Out, Rome Fortune, Nosaj Thing and more. With a beat-driven sound that folds in hip-hop, electronic music and abstract pop, it's a big change from the psychedelic rock vibe of this spring's pretty-good-I-guess What For? LP.
