TLC Surpass Kickstarter Goal for Final Album

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 23, 2015

Well, that didn't take long.

On Monday (January 19), R&B icons TLC launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the recording of their final album. Their goal was a whopping $150,000, but at the time of publishing, the duo has already surpassed their goal and raised $199,559.

Celebrity fans helped the cause, with artists like Katy Perry, New Kids on the Block, Dev Hynes, Russell Simmons, Soulja Boy and Bette Midler all contributing to the cause.

The fundraising hasn't stopped yet, though. There are still 27 days left in the campaign, with prizes like signed vinyl, personal voicemail messages, a trip to the movies and slumber parties with the ladies of TLC, and a photo shoot with the band still up for grabs depending on the generosity of your pledge.

"Some of y'all are asking what we plan to do with the funds we are raising," reads one section of the campaign's post. "Every dollar is going into making the album, together with you. The Kickstarter does not stop now that we hit our minimum goal $150,000!! The more funds that we raise means more access to the best producers, writers and talent in the business!!!"

So it seems like T-Boz and Chilli are well on their way to securing the best in the business to record the new LP. It will mark the final record from the group, who have not recorded a new album since the death of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in 2002. Lopes appeared posthumously on 3D that same year.
