When we learned that LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and musically inclined funnyman Tim Heidecker would be acting in a film called The Comedy, we figured that it would have a great soundtrack — especially considering that the flick also features Okkervil River's Will Sheff, Gregg Turkington (aka Neil Hamburger) and Richard Swift. Now, we've got the details of that soundtrack, which is due out digitally and on vinyl on November 13 through Jagjaguwar.
The Comedy's soundtrack includes some previously released tracks from contemporary indie acts like Gayngs, Here We Go Magic, and Gardens & Villa. There are also some older selections from artists like Bill Fay and Donnie & Joe Emerson, plus a pair of excepts from avant-garde composer William Basinski's The Disintegration Loops. The Rick Alverso-directed film stars Heidecker as an aging hipster about to inherit his father's estate who wastes away his days with like-minded friends (including Murphy and Heidecker's Tim & Eric co-star Eric Wareheim).
The film will be released through various on-demand sources (Amazon, iTunes, Cable VOD, VUDU) on October with a theatrical release to follow on November 9. Also, the movie is making its way through Canadian film festival circuit at the moment, with screenings set for the Vancouver International Film Festival, which just started today (September 27).
